Frequently Asked Questions

What subjects do you tutor?
We cover all major academic subjects, from basic reading and writing to AP Calculus. We also help students prepare for standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, SSAT, LSAT, and GRE.
Do you offer SAT and ACT test prep?
Yes. We combine content review with test strategy, pacing, and practice analysis. Plans can be short-term for an upcoming date or longer-term for maximum score improvement.
Is online tutoring as effective as in-person sessions?
Yes — in many cases, it’s even more effective. Our online sessions use interactive tools like shared whiteboards, real-time document editing, and official SAT practice resources so students stay fully engaged. Lessons are recorded (optional) so students can review them anytime. Parents also save travel time, and students can work from the comfort of home. Our results show that online students see the same average score improvements as our in-person students — often with more scheduling flexibility.
How often should we meet?
Most students meet 1–2 times per week. If there’s a deadline (a test date or end-of-term goals), we can increase frequency temporarily.
What does a free consultation include?
We’ll talk through current grades/scores, goals, schedule constraints, and learning preferences, then propose a simple plan (and a great tutor match) to get started.
Do you support students with test anxiety or learning differences?
Absolutely! Our founder has a learning disability, so supporting neurodivergent learners is a core value for us. We believe every student is unique, which is why personalized education is so crucial.
When should I start SAT/ACT prep?
The best time to start is now, even if the test date seems far away. Early prep means more time to address weaknesses, avoid last-minute stress, and potentially skip multiple retakes. Students who start early often see the biggest score jumps and are better positioned for college admissions and scholarships.
What if I'm not satisfied with the tutoring?
We stand by our tutoring quality. If you're not happy with your first session, we'll give you a full refund, no questions asked (except for feedback to improve!). We want you to feel confident in your investment and our ability to help your student succeed.
How much does this cost?
Our tutoring rates start at $100/hour, with the exact rate depending on the student’s grade level, subject, and the tutor’s experience. Every program is personalized to your student’s needs, so the best way to get an accurate quote is to schedule a free consultation. We’ll discuss your goals, recommend a customized plan, and provide your exact rate with no obligation to commit.
Why is District Scholars more effective than cheaper tutoring options?
Many low-cost tutoring programs use a “one-size-fits-all” approach or hire inexperienced tutors. At District Scholars, you work directly with a subject-matter expert. For standardized test prep, we only hire tutors who aced the test themselves. Every session is personalized, targeted, and based on proven strategies — which means your student improves faster, needs fewer total hours, and enters test day with confidence. In the long run, this saves time, stress, and money.
